At Milky Lane, we know that nothing is as sweet as a child’s smile. That’s why our partnership with the Smile Foundation is so dear to us. As part of this, we were invited to their fun-tastic Smile Week from the 12th to 16th of August 2024 at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

During this year’s Smile Week, 12 children with facial abnormalities received life-changing surgeries. For many families, the cost of these life-changing surgeries is way beyond their budget.

That’s where Smile Week comes in, sprinkling a little magic and a lot of love to make sure no child is without a smile. During this wonderfilled week, the hospitals are filled with stories of transformation. Each surgery is a new beginning for these children and their families, it’s an opportunity to smile without pain, to speak without difficulty, and to live without the stigma that often comes with visible facial differences.

The most special highlight of our visit was meeting the children and the parents. Some had just had successful surgeries, and others were still waiting. Hearing the stories and experiencing the joy really touched our hearts. It was so inspiring and a great reminder of how important our partnership with the Smile Foundation is. At Milky Lane, there’s nothing we believe in more than spreading sweeter smiles in every way possible.

The nurses and doctors are the real heroes; they give up their time to assist in any way they can. We felt they needed more than just a pat on the back; only the sweetest treats would do. That’s why we decided to arrive with yummilicious NiceCream so they too could have big smiles on their faces. Their childlike excitement and gratitude were truly heartwarming.
